It’s a new year and the right time to reinforce some good practices that worked for you thus far in your daily routine.
You might have to make a few small adjustments but do continue to
Do Something Every Day
If the something is searching for a job, searching for new customers or keeping up on your studies, do it. It sounds like a small thing but do continue doing that thing every day whether you feel like it or not. It will matter at the end of the day how you spent your day, believe you me.
You made yourself some goals so if you want to accomplish any of them, do something about them every day. Dedicate time to working on, improving or starting something. Life is happening all around you, so pay attention and see if you can take advantage of any of these changes.
Read, listen to the news, and ask people on social media as you never know when a lead or a comment will inspire you. Sometimes, something seemingly unimportant will change your situation. Write things down immediately so you can refer to them when needed and follow through.
If you find that the lead you got is a dead-end look for another, if one project or piece-work is done look for another. Keep doing something or even have several things on the go concurrently.
Stick To Your Routine
You started a routine that worked well for you so stick to it. That routine can be tweaked here and there depending on where you are at right now because life is not static and a few variations may be needed. Just see what suits you best at this point in time because structure is really important to stay focused especially if you work from home or at a busy place.
At home the distractions of children, television and social media are the biggest culprits. Outside in the office and trading places, the temptation to join in the conversations around you is always tempting but, once you have the hellos and how are yous out of the way sit down and begin working at your tasks as soon as possible. And you will find that other things and people around you will be less of a distraction if you follow a routine.
Stay Organized
You will accumulate a few things around you so at some point of the day, stop and get organized. This means making sure anything important or all the time-sensitive tasks or papers are sent to the right persons. Make sure that you file away everything in a logical order so you can easily find it again later and back up your files. It would be prudent too to check if you have recorded every transaction you made for that day.
Staying organized also means putting away any tools you are not using, sweeping the floor around you or throwing away the trash. And those to-do lists you made don’t forget to go through them and delete or tear any up that have been tackled. The less clutter you have around you the better you will work.
